Well on Saturday I went out and purchased a 120cm Octobox for the studio. Of course I couldn’t wait to get home to try it out. So I grabbed my ‘go to’ model (hubby) to test it out. He is always so enthusiastic to get in front of the camera as you can see by the attached image. J
Anyway, the octobox really is collapsible. Yes I swear it is, I can prove it to you, see it collapsed right there right in the middle of the camera click, there was this bang as I was just getting into the ‘testing phase’, just starting to find my rhythm and guess what, it collapsed in on itself after 6 photos, so here is me thinking to myself……hmmm I think you are supposed to wait until I want you to collapse not decide for yourself when you want to collapse. So glad I was in the room when it happened other wise it may have got hot and caught fire from the heat of the light. Needless to say I was not impressed. So glad I tried it out before I had a client in the studio.
The octobox is the umbrella type and I am guessing it couldn’t stand the pressure of being opened for any length of time.
So now I am on the hunt for a good octobox, after returning this one of course, not an umbrella type collapsible one.
The light from these things is so amazing, fills the whole studio no need for a second light, and gives a nice little round catch light in the eye. Can’t wait to get a new one. Anyone up for some test shots? Not sure I can convince hubby a second time. :-)
